Nonfiction- Planets Around the Sun
The book, Planets Around the Sun by Seymour Simon, concisely summarizes our Solar System. Each page has a black background with bold white font. The picture on each page is large and simple which draws the reader’s focus onto the planet being discussed. The book gives comparisons easy for children to comprehend, ex: if Earth were the size of a basketball, the Sun would be the size of a basketball court. The book also includes a chart of each planets’: distance from the Sun, orbital period, diameter, length of the day, average temperature (F), moons, and rings. I would recommend this book as a reading supplement for students learning about the Solar System because the format is easy to follow and comprehend.
